Start with the reason you want to stop
Tell the prescriber whether the concern is a possible side effect, cost, refill access, pregnancy-safety requirement, schedule burden, or a belief that the acne is already clear. The answer may differ, and the prescriber must decide whether stopping or continuing is safer for you.
Bring the medication container or exact product name, your current schedule, when the concern began, and any recent test results you can access. Do not take more or less isotretinoin or take it more often than prescribed while waiting for advice.
Why the planned end date can change
A course is commonly 15 to 20 weeks, or about four to five months, but treatment can be shorter or longer. The prescriber may adjust the plan based on response or adverse reactions.
Acne can continue to improve after treatment ends. If another course is warranted, it should not begin for at least two months because improvement may continue after a 15-to-20-week course.
When not to wait for a routine reply
Some situations require immediate action, including possible pregnancy or a serious symptom. Examples include thoughts of self-harm, a severe headache with vision changes, severe stomach or bowel pain, trouble breathing, facial or mouth swelling, or muscle weakness.
Call 911 for an immediate threat to life or safety. For other concerning symptoms, contact the prescriber promptly and follow the urgent instructions supplied with your medicine.
Questions to settle with the prescriber
Ask whether the symptom or practical problem changes the immediate plan, what monitoring or evaluation is needed, what to do with unused capsules, and what follow-up is still required. Patients who can become pregnant may still have end-of-treatment and one-month-after pregnancy testing requirements.

Will acne definitely return if I stop Accutane early?
Not necessarily. Individual recurrence risk depends on the acne response, course, dose, and other clinical factors; ask the prescriber about your course.
Should Accutane be tapered?

Can I save leftover capsules for later?
